The European Law Students’ Association or ELSA is an international, independent, non-political, and non-profit making association run by and for students and recent graduates. Founded in 1981, ELSA aspires to provide its members with a platform to develop and acquire new skills, interact with fellow students and experienced practitioners from various states and legal systems across Europe, and be prepared for a professional life in an international environment through mutual understanding, intercultural cooperation, and the wide range of activities and projects offered by the Association. ELSA connects and bridges law students with the professional world, while also supporting as the voice of approximately 70.000 law students across 432 law faculties in 43 countries. It is supported by the world's largest legal associations, including the International Lawyers' Association, the International Bar Association, the European Law Institute, the European Women Lawyers' Association, the Council of Bars and Law Societies in Europe, and the Council of Europe. Established in 2009, ELSA Tilburg is one of eight local groups in the Netherlands working to implement ELSA's vision and purpose on a local level.

Our ELSA Traineeships programme offers our members the opportunity to gain paid legal work experience in a foreign country. The unique chance to professionally engage with a foreign legal system helps our members set themselves aside in pursuing their legal careers
Our ELSA Law Schools, Delegations & Moot Court Competitions give participants the opportunity to make contacts with people from all around the world. They provide a combination of academic, social and cultural experience.

ELSA was founded in Vienna on the 4th of May 1981 by students from Poland, Austria, Hungary and Western Germany. The aim of the association was to stimulate international relations between students across the Iron Curtain. Today, ELSA is the world’s largest independent law students’ association counting more than 50,000 members, represented at within 375 local groups in 43 countries, ranging from Ireland to Azerbaijan, and from Finland to Malta.
ELSA Tilburg is one of the eight local groups in the Netherlands, alongside Nijmegen, Leiden, Maastricht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Groningen.
ELSA activities comprise a large variety of academic and professional events and projects that are organized to fulfil the vision of ELSA and in order to provide our members opportunities to enhance their skills and to interact with each other. Furthermore ELSA provides law students opportunities to develop their skills through our ELSA Traineeships programme as well as through our publications. Finally, working in the ELSA Network prepares active members of ELSA for their professional life through international experience gained through the association.
